Organic Gardening for Newbies

If you are just getting started in organic gardening there are a few rules that you need to follow.  The first thing you need to understand is that an organic gardener relies on his soil more than anything else.  If you have used chemicals on your plants in the past there is a good potential that your soil may be ruined.  Earthworms and beneficial microbes may have vacated your soil as it became too toxic an environment for them to live in.  If this is the case then you must overhaul the soil and replace the it with compost.  It has been recommended to flush the area with water after you have dug a trench a foot deep to force fertilizer salts deeper into the ground and away from your garden.

It is important that you plant complementary crops as certain insects will be repelled by the close proximity of other crops.  You may want to look into buying insects that will eat harmful insects in your garden.  Read more...
