Gardening Jobs are Not Boring

There is a misconception that gardening jobs are boring and only for the unskilled.  The reality is that gardening jobs require a great deal of skill and education.  People think that a landscaper that they see cutting the lawn or digging a hole in the ground is a gardener, but this is not the case.  Horticultural firms are finding it more and more difficult to fill positions in their companies.  Many people perceive gardening as a hobby and not a career.  Schools do not promote horticulture to the degree they should and thus many people choose other paths with their career.  Thus this leads to a shortage of educated horticulturists.  Some companies are forced to obtain workers from overseas to fill vacant positions that they can’t satisfy locally.  Read more…
